Ocean Frontiers: An interdisciplinary workshop on the changing contours of marine space and resource access

Elizabeth Havice will travel to York University in Toronto, Canada to administer and participate in an interdisciplinary workshop on the changing ecological, scientific and political economy dimensions of ocean space and resource access. The workshop will unite social scientists and ecologists who are examining the unfolding processes of marine resource use that are defining our ideas about what roles the oceans serve, how they should be conserved and equitably used and by whom. Dr. Havice will be presenting her work on "resource owning" Pacific island states and the "resource seeking" United States have simultaneously constituted their notions and practices of sovereignty through the management of highly migratory tuna stocks.
