North Americans in Soylandia: An Ethnography of Transnational Agrarianism

For this ethnographic project, I propose to work with two North American populations, Mennonites from Ohio (now in Goi?âˆ_s) and farmers from the U.S. Midwest (now in Western Bahia), that have migrated to Brazil to farm soybeans and cotton and have become entrenched in the so-called "soy boom." This research project ethnographically researches the migration, farming practices, and community life of two groups of transnational soybean farmers in Brazil.
