Katherine (Kitty) Stalberg joined the Center for Global Initiatives in 2009 as program coordinator for N.C. Sli. Following a Peace Corps assignment in Ecuador, Kitty spent 13 years as a program officer with the Partners of the Americas Inc. in Washington, D.C. She later worked as a hazard mitigation specialist for FEMA as well as the State of California Office of Emergency Services. Kitty relocated to North Carolina in the mid-1990s, where she continued her involvement with N.C. Partners of the Americas and served as the director of programs for the N.C. Society of Hispanic Professionals. Kitty is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, with degrees in music and anthropology, and also did graduate work in music therapy at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Outside of her work, Kitty enjoys performing as principal violist with the Chapel Hill Philharmonica, the Thoreau Quartet and Save the Date Music, and volunteering with the N.C.-Bolivia Partners of the Americas.

As an undergraduate, I spent six to ten hours a day in Hill Hall attending classes and concerts, practicing, rehearsing, and studying in UNC’s world-class music library. Within its now crumbling walls, I was both challenged and uplifted. Decades later, as the building undergoes major renovation, I am frequently in the Hall making music with community and university groups, ever appreciative of how the universal language of music impacts our global experiences.”
