Mieke Meurs is Professor of Economics
and Ph.D. Program Director at American University. She
is the author of The Evolution of Agrarian Institutions:
A Comparative Study of Post-Socialist Hungary and Bulgaria
and numerous articles on socialist and post-socialist
agriculture. Recent work also includes research on local
government and the impact of post-socialist transformation
on human development outcomes.
This
Sawyer Seminar, funded by the Mellon Foundation, includes a year-long
series of working group meetings
and mini-conferences on the central theme of globalization and
the land. It is hosted by UNC's Center for Global Initiatives.
