David Gilmartin is Professor of History
at North Carolina State University. He specializes in
the history of modern India and Pakistan, and has worked
on the history of Pakistan's creation, on the history
of water and politics in the Indus Basin, and, most
recently on the history of law and elections. His most
recent article is "Election Law and the 'People'
in Colonial and Postcolonial India," in Dipesh
Chakrabarty, Rochona Mazumdar, and Andrew Sartori, eds.,
From the Colonial to the Postcolonial: India and Pakistan
in Transition (2007).
