Chengri Ding is an Associate and director
of China Urban Management and Land Policy Program at
the National Center for Smart Growth, University of
Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. from University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign in 1996 in urban and regional planning.
A specialist in land policy, urban economics, urban
policy and planning, Chengri Ding has published in journals
like Journal of Urban Economics Urban Studies, Housing
Policy Debates, Environment and Planning, Land Use Policy,
International Regional Science Review, Urban Affairs
Review, Journal of Real Estate Research, JPER, etc.
He (co-editor) published two books and on forthcoming
related to Land, Housing, Urban Development, and Smart
Growth in China, along with one manuscript (forthcoming)
on urban planning in the context of markets. Dr. Ding
also published three books in Chinese on urban economics
and planning.
Chengri Ding serves on the Board
of Directors of International Property Tax Institute
since 2006. He is invited foreign expert for China Development
Bank, and expert review for World Bank’s AAA Land
Policy Project.
Chengri Ding initiated and orchestrated the establishment
of China Program for the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
as well as the University of Maryland in 2003. He has
been managing, directing, and leading the China Program
since 2001. The Program is fully established and working
with DRC, SAT, MOF, MOC, MLR, many universities and
research institutes such as Peking and Zhejiang. One
of the collaborated areas that prove to be very fruitful
and influential is his deep engagement and involvement
in property tax development in China. Project reports
have been widely circulated even among top leaders.
