Carolina Global Photography Competition

Winners will be announced at the opening reception of the exhibit in the atrium Global Education Center on January 18, 2012 at 5 pm.

The Center for Global Initiatives, UNC Study Abroad and UNC Global are pleased to announce a collaborative call for entries to the 12th Annual Carolina Global Photography Competition. This is an amateur photography competition that is open to all students, faculty, alumni and staff of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
 

Submission Instructions:

1. Complete and submit this online photo contest form.
2.  Up to 3 photos may be submitted. 

 
RULES AND REGULATIONS
 
1. Entry Period:
 
June 13, 2011 through September 30, 2011. Entries must be the original work of the entrant, and must be created exclusively by the entrant. THE ENTRY PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED.
 
2.  Photo specs

Both old and new photos will be accepted.  There is NO submission restriction for the time period when the photo was taken. Photos that have been altered are also eligible (ie-altered with Photoshop, Lightroom, etc).
 
3. Judging Criteria:
 
Entries will be judged on whether the image and caption description:
 
1) embraces the commonality of humanity and the opportunity to convey knowledge
2) explores the under-represented in traditional media
3) demonstrates artistic merit.
 
4. Prizes:
 
Grand Prize: Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera
Second Place: Glacier Blue Osprey Shoulder Bag from REI
Third Place: $40 gift card to Wolf Camera

Winners will be announced the Exhibit Opening Reception on January 18th, at 5 pm and will also be notified by email.
 
5. Exhibits and Publications:
 
Winning entries and selected photos will be exhibited in the UNC Fedex Global Education Center January 2, 2012 through April 14, 2012.

CGI will also choose 13 photos which will be published in the Center for Global Initiatives 2012 Calendar.  CGI will announce its Calender photos on the CGI Facebook page.  One lucky photographer profiled in our Calendar will receive a special framed print courtesy of PictureFrameGuys.com! FAQ

Q1.  Am I limited to only 3 photos?  Can I submit more?
A1.  No more than 3 photos can be submitted.  Choose your favorites!

Q2.  Do I have to submit 3 photos?
A1.  No.  You may submit 1, 2 or 3 photos but no more than 3.

Q3.  Do photos have to be taken on UNC Study Abroad trips?
A3.  Not at all.  There is no requirement or limitation on where or when the photo was taken.  Alumni could even submit photos taken from 20 years ago!

Q4.  I am technically not a UNC student but I am enrolled in a collaborative program between Duke and UNC.  Am I eligible to submit?
A. Yes! 

Q5.  I would like to submit a photo taken in the US that has an international dimension.  Is that allowable?
A5. Yes!
