Leann joined the Center for Global Initiatives in 2009 as the Program Coordinator for Carolina for Kibera (CFK). Working closely with CFK’s Kenyan staff, the US Board of Directors and an army of volunteers, Leann coordinates CFK’s activities nationally and on the UNC-CH campus. She has over 10 years of experience in nonprofit management including administration, fundraising, and program development. She has a passion for designing and implementing systems that empower people, improve operations, and inspire innovation.
As an undergraduate, she had the privilege of studying in Kenya with Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai and the Green Belt Movement. Leann is passionate about participatory community development and has lead service learning and cultural immersion experiences for North Americans to Kenya, Nicaragua, and Cambodia.
Leann graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC with a degree in Sociology and concentration in Environmental Studies.
