Hodding Carter is the Former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Carter Administration and served as spokesperson during the crisis. He currently is a Professor in the Department of Public Policy at UNC.

Charles Kurzman is a UNC Professor of Sociology and author of The Unthinkable Revolution in Iran.
